ecometric works with Emmett’s to demonstrate an accurate net carbon position.

ecometric worked with Emmett’s to provide an affordable, scalable method to routinely monitor soil organic carbon stock change over their dispersed growing area.  The desire was to understand the impact and role played by Emmett’s crops in the rotation and ultimately establish an accurate-net carbon position. 

 Given the nature of crops and Emmett’s harvesting process which allows much of the waste element to be returned to the soil, they wanted to establish whether any surplus sequestration was generated beyond net-zero and if so whether it could be accurately used as an inset to offset their own emissions. Katie Ford, Technical Director at Emmett’s says

“12 months in and we have been really impressed with the system, the ground truthed results have been highly accurate, ecometric has managed the process with very little input required from ourselves, and given that they stands outside the ag-supply chain there is no commercial bias or need for other farm data. Additionally we have all through our involvement with ecometric been upskilled in our knowledge of what is possible and that has really given us a possible route through to understanding how we as a business operating on rented land can tackle our roadmap to Net Zero.”
